Philadelphia
The Drivas Lab is part of the Division of Translational Medicine and Human Genetics of the Department of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Our lab is located within the Institute for Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism on the 12th floor of the Smilow Center for Translational Research on UPenn’s campus in the vibrant University City neighborhood of Philadelphia. The lab is walking and biking distance from countless safe and desirable neighborhoods within the city and a short drive or train ride to a number of Philadelphia suburbs.
In addition to the amazing labs, research, and clinical care at Penn and the surrounding universities, Philadelphia has a rich and well-preserved history (with gratitude, we recognize Philadelphia as part of the Lënapehòkink , the ancestral homelands of the Lenape peoples), a vibrant arts and culture scene , and an outstanding selection of top-rated restaurants and bars (without the sticker shock of other east coast cities). Housing in Philadelphia includes everything from classic Philadelphia trinity row homes to beautiful Victorians and modern high rise apartments, all at relatively affordable prices (both for rent and to own). We’re less than a 2 hour drive from a gorgeous shoreline, the Pocono mountain resort area, and from New York City, making all sorts of weekend escapes easy and affordable.
Philadelphia is a diverse and welcoming city! People and families of all ancestries, cultures, and backgrounds call Philadelphia home, and the city government is committed to improving the lives of all Philadelphians to create a city where neither race, ethnicity, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, income, or neighborhood are a determinant of success. The University of Pennsylvania and PennMed are similarly committed to promoting and supporting a diverse and inclusive working and educational environment; Penn is the home of the second oldest academic LGBTQ+ center in the United States! The Drivas lab and our members are absolutely committed to upholding these same core values in our work and personal lives.
